Computer/Projector Interfacing

Almost any time you want to connect a laptop or some other type of portable computer to a video/data projector you have to activate the external monitor output of the laptop, assuming it does have one. If you are attempting to connect a desktop computer to a video/data projector just use the monitor output of the computer.

Connectors

The external monitor output on the portable computer or the regular monitor output of the desktop computer should look like one of the following:

  • VGA/S-VGA connector. It is the standard IBM/clone video output connector.
    SVGA connector
  • MAC II connector. It is the standard Macintosh video output connector.
    MacII connector
NOTE: Older MAC laptops and Powerbooks require a MAC II adapter in order to interface.
  • 13W3 connector. It is the standard SUN Microsystems video output connector.
    Sun/Sparc connector
SUN/SPARC stations are ultra-high resolution systems and require an ultra-high resolution projector.
  • At least one of these three connections is provided for hooking into a data projector. In most cases it is just a SVGA cable. An adapter (MACII to SVGA) is secured to the cable for Apple users.

Computer Audio:

All rooms with interfaces are equipped with a computer audio input. In most rooms a stereo mini cable is provided. The cable must be plugged into the "line level" output on your computer and not the amplified speaker output.
