What to expect: Your sleep evaluation could involve a number of components. It begins with sleep questionnaire and a computer based psychological assessment followed by a thorough review of symptoms as well as environmental, medical, emotional and social factors which surround the individual and often contribute to sleep disturbances. In some cases an all night sleep study is part of the assessment. Results of the evaluation and treatment plan are delivered to the patient and to the referring physician (if not self-referred) as quickly as possible.
Treatment may include cognitive and behavioral components, stress coping and relaxation, the use of bright light to reset the sleep-walk rhythm, review and adjustment of medication, and education on sleep hygiene.
