news & eventsClick Here to Get involved in one of SAWP's Working Groups!Our next Write to Learn Saturday is coming up on February 20 from 9-12 at the Transitional Office Building. Hedwig Dennis, of Catalina Foothills High School, will present: Abandoning Moby Dick and Finding a Minnow for My Frying: Guiding Students Towards a Close Reading of Short Story. Tony Gerrettie, Salpointe High School,will present: Story of a City: A Discovery of Who and Where We Are. Both presentations offer great resources for teachers of all grade levels. The registration fee of $10 can be paid on site. (See the 2009-2010 program: pdf ) Our annual Voices in the Village Conference will not be held this year due to budget constraints. Our Online Teacher Research and Inquiry Community, which has been meeting largely in cyberspace this year, will, instead, share their year-long inquiry projects and their experiences with this new format. SAWP Writing Community: On second Saturday mornings, the SAWP Writing Community will serve as a block of time and space for teachers to start, continue, and/or finish individual or collaborative projects. The Writing Community provides space for writing for professional, research, or personal purposes; focused professional or personal reading with no interruptions; investigating a new teaching idea and developing a plan of implementation; collaboration among SAWP fellows and revising or re-working your teaching demo.
