Awards Ceremony
By 2LT Liber
The Wildcat Battalion came together to reward those who worked hard from the previous semester and summer training. The new MSIIIs in leadership held a formation and then marched their Platoons into the Koffler building. The purpose of the awards ceremony was to reward those who conducted any summer training such as LTC, CTLT, Airborne school, Air Assault School, Mountain Warfare, and LDAC. Those who had high achievements from the previous semester in terms of their GPA and/or scored well on the army physical fitness test were given certificates with cadet ribbons that can be worn on their dress uniform. The awards ceremony also gave recognition to the ranger challenge team, which consisted of MS Is, MS IIS, and MS IIIs, as MS IVs are unable to participate this year but are still active through instruction.
Cadet Joseph Balooshi talked about his experiences at Ft. Irwin, California, where he assisted soldiers in simulating intense battle situations in Iraq in order to help train units before they are sent overseas.
After the completion of awards, the new Professor of Military Science (PMS) Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Leslie gave a briefing stating the mission, goals, and expectations of the year for the Wildcat Battalion. He stressed the safety and well-being of all individuals as well as the importance of “one message” for unit cohesion.
The Awards ceremony not only congratulated those who did well, but was a reminder to those who had high achievements to keep striving to do well, as well as inspire others to aim to get an award. New cadets also left with a better awareness of the program.
