MSIII-MSIV Mixer and Battalion Picnic
By 2LT Liber
The Wildcat Battalion kicked off the semester with their first lab on Wednesday, August 29th at South Hall. Army ROTC labs are always on Wednesdays and are a time when all the Army Military Science (MS) classes come together to participate in training and other activities. However, this lab was specifically for the Senior (MS IV) class and the Junior (MS III) class. After food and drinks were offered to everyone, the mixer began with a welcoming speech given by new Battalion Commander, Cadet Matthew Gasser, in which he offered advice for the upcoming year and the program’s expectations of the MS IIIs. The MS III year is designed to be the most influential and challenging year in Army ROTC. Following the speech, Cadre and MS IVs introduced themselves to MS IIIs, who in return, introduced themselves. MS IIIs are also each assigned an MS IV mentor and were able to meet with them during this lab for additional advice as well as learn about being mentors to the Freshmen (MS I) and Sophomores (MS II). The Peer Mentorship program provides great opportunity for especially the younger MS classes by guiding them to be successful in the Army ROTC program.
The following lab on September 4th was at the Student Recreation Center and was an opportunity for the Wildcat Battalion to be able to meet as one group. After the MS III leadership took charge and held an initial formation, students were able to mingle with one another and play games such as dodge ball, basketball, and volleyball. The purpose of this lab was to allow Cadets to become better acquainted with one another, the Army ROTC program, as well as promote unit cohesion.
The Wildcat Battalion is excited for another great year of fun, training and leadership development. Cadets and students are eager for upcoming training since they know that the experience they acquire through practice will help shape them into the future leaders of America.
