Spring Semester
By ADM Clark
The spring semester has been a busy one for the Wildcat Battalion with cadets participating in weekly labs, recruiting on campus, and competing for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.
Since January the Wildcat Battalion has conducted weekly labs aimed at instructing cadets in small unit tactics to prepare them for Situational Training Exercises and Patrolling at Warrior Forge. Freshmen and sophomore cadets, known as MSIs and MSIIs, fill the role of team members and first learn the basic soldier skills required to execute squad-level tactical missions. Junior cadets (MSIIIs) serve as the leadership at the squad and fire team level making the tough decisions and applying the tactics they have learned. Senior cadets (MSIVs) and Cadre instruct and observe during scenarios designed to test MSIIIs leadership skills and MSIs and MSIIs soldier skills.

In addition to tactical training the Wildcat Bn recently finished competing for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (GAFPB). In order to receive this badge soldiers must meet high standards of physical fitness and athleticism, as well as in marksmanship and knowledge of first aid. Highlights of this year’s competition for the badge were 9mm marksmanship at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, swim events at the Student Recreation Center, track and field events at Drachman Stadium, and the 18.7 mile ruck march on the campus of Raytheon.
