Bio or Research Areas:
Barbara Norrander received here PhD from The Ohio State University in 1982 and has been a member of the Department since 1990. She is a leading expert on presidential nominations, and also conducts research on the gender gap and state public opinion. She regularly publishes in the major academic journals, including the Journal of Politics, American Journal of Political Science, and Public Opinion Quarterly. Recent articles include "The Gender Gap in Latin America: Contextual and Individual Influences on Gender and Political Participation," co-authored with Scott Desposato in the British Journal of Political Science (2008), "The Attrition Game: Initial Resources, Initial Contests and the Exit of Candidates During the US Presidential Primary Season," British Journal of Political Science (2006), and “The End Game in Post-Reform Presidential Nominations," Journal of Politics (2000), She is coeditor with Clyde Wilcox of Understanding Public Opinion, 2nd edition (CQ Press, 2002).

Professor Norrander teaches Introduction to American National Government (POL 201), Political Parties (POL 231), Public Opinion and Voting Behavior (POL 435), and seminars in the graduate program. Her coauthored book with Michael Corbett, American Government: Using MicroCase ExplorIt, 9th edition (Wadsworth 2006), is the leading computer-based workbook for courses on American government. She is the past president of the Western Political Science Association and been a member of the executive board for the Midwest Political Science Association and the editorial boards of the American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics and State Politics and Policy Quarterly.
