SUBJECT: Driver Training Requirements
Since April 1999, drivers of high occupancy vehicles (HOVs) have been required to attend a training program administered by Risk Management and Safety prior to operating such vehicles on University business. This requirement is now expanded to include drivers of all full size vans, stake bed trucks, and any vehicle used to tow a trailer. Drivers who need training under this policy should complete it no later than April 30, 2000.
The training requirement is applicable to any driver, driving any vehicle on University business that meets the following criteria:
The University's liability is associated with the driver, not vehicle ownership. Because of this, the training requirement applies to vehicles from the UA Motorpool, UA departmental vehicles, private rental companies, and privately owned vehicles used on University business. Each unit is responsible for maintaining compliance with the training requirement for drivers under their direction and control.
Risk Management and Safety provides the required training program on a regular basis. The schedule for the Spring 2000 semester is below. Pre-registration is required. Contact Risk Management and Safety at 621-1790 to register for a training session.
