The Department of Philosophy is an internationally distinguished community
of scholars and students. The faculty aspires to advance philosophical knowledge
while providing outstanding educational opportunities to both undergraduate and
graduate students. Students may earn the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in philosophy.
The Department is generally recognized among the best philosophy programs in
the country in light of its strengths in epistemology, the philosophy of mind
and cognitive science, the history of philosophy, the philosophy of language,
moral and political philosophy, and the philosophy of science and mathematics.
The individual research programs of the faculty in the Department are highly interdisciplinary,
intersecting with psychology, linguistics, history and classics, economics, mathematics,
law, political science and public policy, Artificial Intelligence, physics, environmental
sciences, and the biological sciences including medicine.
