The deadline for applying at the University of Arizona is the semester before you start.

Myth Buster: The deadlines for transfer students to apply to the University of Arizona are May 1st (summer), June 1st, (fall), November 1st (spring). There may be exceptions to the deadlines. Call Admissions for those exceptions or go to their website at:

There are not enough parking spaces for students.

Transfer students are not allowed to live in the dorms.

Myth Buster: Transfer students can apply for residence hall wings that are reserved specifically for them.

Transfer students will not get accepted into Eller College.

Students should complete their AGEC- A, ABUS, AGEC-S before attending the University of Arizona.

Myth Buster: In most cases, yes, but it depends on your MAJOR. Some majors would require the prerequisites completed but not the AGEC. Check with your academic advisor for clarification of completing your AGEC. http://advising.arizona.edu/

You can walk in and see an advisor anytime.

Myth Buster: Unlike, PCC, UA academic advisors work on an appointment system. Some colleges provide advising on a walk in basis but you must check with the department for their academic advising schedules. For further information go to: http://advising.arizona.edu/

UA advisors will only help UA students.

Myth Buster: UA academic advisors will help any student who is interested in their program. Transfer students should contact UA academic advisors as soon as they have decided upon a major. http://advising.arizona.edu/

The only way to find out what courses transfer is by talking to an academic advisor.

Myth Buster: Students can go the the Course Equivalency Guide at http://az.transfer.org/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Admin_CEG, to check and see what courses are transferable to all three state universities.

UA does not provide accommodations for children of UA students.

Myth Buster: Commuter Student Affair Office, a student organization that provides social opportunities for non-traditionally aged students has a new resource for student parents - Kidz Corner, a child-friendly study lounge/computer lab in the Student Union. It provides a safe place for children while their parent studies. There is also a free continental breakfast for commuter students offered on Tuesday mornings at the Office of Commuter Student Affairs. For more information go to:

There is no support for students who do not live on campus.

Myth Buster: Commuter Student Affair Office, a student organization that provides social opportunities for non-traditionally aged students, provides support for commuter students. Support includes: Computers to access email and the internet, Study areas in the Student Union, Kidz Korner - a child friendly study lounge/computer lab in the Student Union, and a free continental breakfast for commuter students on Tuesday mornings. There is no personal help for me with learning assistance.

Myth Buster: The University Learning Center has professionals who can help any student who requests personal support - at no charge. In addition, there are online workshops available for support, exam preparation, MAT anxiety, reading comprehension, note-taking, time-management. Classes are so large; it will be difficult to feel connected.

Myth Buster: While UA has a large student population, small neighborhood living and learning communities have been established to promote a sense of community. Contact your academic advisor for more information.

Once I’ve been admitted as a transfer student, there isn’t a place for me to go for help.

Faculty are unavailable to students.

Myth Buster: Faculty provide weekly office hours designated for students. Check your syllabus for office hours and stop by and see your faculty!!!

If a student does not have healthcare insurance, (s)he has no access to healthcare.

Myth Buster: Any UA student is eligible to utilize the University Health Care Center. Students may have to pay a nominal fee for some health care services but most of the cost is covered by tuition. http://www.health.arizona.edu/webfiles/insurance.htm

Only full-time students are eligible for health insurance.

There are no services for students with learning disabilities.

Myth Buster: UA is known nationally for its support of students with learning disabilities, both in and out of the classroom. SALT (the Strategic Alternative Learning Technigues) is a fee-based department within the Division of Campus Life. The University Learning Center (ULC) has professionals committed to promoting student achievement and retention- at no charge.
