Description: A new joint international Ph.D. program in Transcultural German Studies between The University of Arizona and The University of Leipzig targeting groups of students aspiring to pursue academic careers relating to national and international educational, cultural, and linguistic interests in Germany, the United States of America, and in a great variety of Asian, African, Latin American, and European countries. This is the first such program in the United States that will combine the strengths of a major German and American Research I university to create an international Ph.D. program in German Studies. Graduates of this program will have a thorough grounding in cultural, literary, and language studies from interdisciplinary, cross- and transcultural perspectives.

Beyond the Master’s level, doctoral students at the University of Arizona in German Studies would spend two semesters taking courses at the University of Leipzig. Beyond the "Magister" (Master’s degree), doctoral students at the University of Leipzig would spend one year at the University of Arizona, taking two semesters of course work, that is, twelve units of equivalent credit. Candidates from both universities will have the opportunity to teach German language courses as Graduate Assistants in Teaching.
