Molecular and Cellular Biology
The focus of work deals with issues pertaining to:
- growth and form
- cell division
- cell motions
- biophysics of membranes
- multicellular states
The interplay between biological processes and the physical
environment are explored in search of the mechanisms responsible
for self-organization and pattern formation. Experimental and
theoretical investigations are pursued simultaneously and
students are directly involved in collecting the experimental
data required to construct and test mathematical models. The
interface between mathematical and physical theories and the
laboratory experiments permits ideas to flow in both directions
and new experimental and theoretical strategies to be developed.
