Mary
Willie (Navajo; Ph.D., 1991, University of Arizona) holds
a tenure track appointment in Linguistics with a shared appointment
in American Indian Studies. Professor Willie's latest scholarship focuses
on psych verbs in Navajo, the expression of modality in Navajo, and
number and person in Dine. She is developing a major proposal to NSF
to study morphological knowledge of Navajo speakers. She has taught
in the American Indian Language Development Institute for the past 10
years and works with AIS graduate students who need to meet the M.A.
language requirement. Professor Willie has an extensive service/outreach
record including a three year term on the UA Graduate Council and the
AIS Curriculum Committee since 1994.
