Hartman H. Lomawaima (Hopi) is Director of the Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona, and member of the AIS Affiliate faculty. Professor Lomawaima holds degrees from Northern Arizona University and Harvard University in Education and Education Administration. He brings to AIS a strong background in administration & policy analysis; tribal museum development; American Indian art & material culture studies; state and federal laws on repatriation; Hopi language, ideology and ethnohistory. Professor Lomawaima is past president of The Hopi Foundation and is a trustee of the Hopi Education Endowment Fund. He has served on national museum boards including the American Association of Museums and American Association for State & Local History. He currently serves as trustee of the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution, and is chair of the trustee's committee on research.. Locally, he serves as board member for the Tucson Pima Arts Council, The Arizona Town Hall and The Governor's Historical Advisory Commission that is planning Arizona's Centennial activities.Back to Faculty Locator
