Benedict ColombiBenedict J. Colombi (Ph.D. Washington State University, 2006) is an Assistant Professor of American Indian Studies, Anthropology, and Natural Resources at the University of Arizona, and a faculty member in the newly created Institute for Environment and Society (IES).  He serves as Program Chair for the American Anthropological Association, Anthropology & Environment section.  He conducts research in natural resources and environmental policy, and is writing several articles and developing a book based on recent research with the Nez Perce Tribe about large dams, Pacific salmon and the world-economy in the Columbia River Basin.  He also sustains interests in expanding his research to include Southwestern watersheds and combining field sites in Russia, Canada, Norway, Tasmania, Chile, and the United States.  Along with his colleagues he is developing a book series on indigenous peoples and salmon in the upper latitudes of the world.  Recent publications include: (forthcoming) Indigenous Peoples, Large Dams, and Capital-Intensive Energy Development: A View from the Lower Colorado River; (2008) Salmon Nation: Tribal Sovereignty and Climate Change; (2006) The Nez Perce Tribe and the Extinction of Pacific Salmon: A Social Power Approach; (2005) Dammed in Region Six: The Nez Perce Tribe, Agricultural Development, and the Inequality of Scale; and (2004) Revisiting Phinney: Sixty-Five Years after "Numipu Among the White Settlers."
