  Description The Amerind Foundation is a nonprofit anthropological and archaeological museum and research center dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Native American cultures and their histories. Their website provides a description of exhibits and current events, an online photo gallery, information about some of the research activities of the center (including a list of publications), and basic visitor information.

  Title Center for Desert Archaeology
  Description The Center for Desert Archaeology web site is part of this non-profit organization's goal of facilitating education, research and preservation of archaeological and historical information in the American Southwest and Mexican Northwest. The site offers a range of resources, from the work done by the organization, research projects, links, publications of Archaeology Southwest and more. The Center promotes the "wise stewardship of archaeological and historical resources" which can be noted through their extensive active projects. Of particular interest are online exhibits and links to papers produced by the organization.

  Title Cornerstones Community Partnerships of New Mexico
  Description This organization works with communities in New Mexico to preserve and protect historic buildings. Their web site contains pictures and descriptions of ongoing projects, along with information about activities open to the public, copies of newsletters, and suggestions as to how to get involved.

  Title Crow Canyon Archaeological Center
  Description The Crow Canyon Archaeological Center is a nonprofit organization that promotes the study of the archaeology of the Southwest through volunteer work, educational outreach programs to people of all ages, and professional archaeological research. Crow Canyon (located just outside of Cortez, Colorado) sponsors various trips throughout the Southwest that teach about the cultures of the area, as well as sessions (throughout the year) that allow volunteers to work at archaeological excavations and in archaeology labs; the programs run various lengths, from a couple of weeks to day programs (information in the Programs and Calendar section). The Center also sponsors internships and fellowships to support students of southwestern archaeology. In addition, Crow Canyon publishes their research online, to make the information more accessible and available to a larger audience. These are available in the Archaeological Research Section.

  Title Jacobs Research Funds
  Description This small foundation supports anthropological research (primarily sociocultural or linguistic) on the indigenous peoples of Canada, Mexico, and mainland United States; although their focus is on the Pacific Northwest, they will consider southwestern research. Grants are given for work on problems in: language, social organization, political organization, religion, mythology, music, other arts, psychology and folk science.

  Title Mending the Circle: a Native American Repatriation Guide
  Description This site provides a free download and on-line copy of this comprehensive guide outlining the repatriation process set forth by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) of 1990. It includes information on NAGPRA regulations, civil penalties and building a repatriation program. The Smithsonian Institute's official policies and approaches are also covered.

  Title Native Seeds/SEARCH
  Description “Native Seeds/SEARCH” is a non-profit organization that “works to conserve, distribute and document the adapted and diverse varieties of agricultural seed, their wild relatives and the role these seeds play in cultures” of southwestern U. S. and northwestern Mexico. NS/S offers free seed, seasonal catalogs and information on native Southwestern vegetation to its members in order to promote the use of traditional crops and their wild relatives. The “Native Seeds/SEARCH” Home site provides information on the organization and its projects, as well as articles of interest from recent issues of the organization’s newsletter “The Seedhead” with information on native crops and grassroots conservation projects in the region. The site also offers native seed listings, information on native foods and crafts, and links to other non-profit seed organizations. The site’s Membership “benefits” page also provides a map of “Indian Tribes of the Greater Southwest.”

  Description The School of American Research is a nonprofit center for advanced studies which supports the study and practice of anthropology and Southwest Indian arts. This web site contains detailed information on the workings of the SAR, including information about the Resident Scholars Program and other funding opportunities; the online catalog of the Catherine McElvain Library; a link to the SAR Press; and information about the Advanced Seminars, Indian Arts Research Center, and Contemporary Issues program.
