  Description This is a report on a project conducted by the Center for Desert Archaeology. In 2002, the Center began an analysis of an archaeological collection donated to the Benson Public Library. This report describes the findings of the analysts involved. This resource is in PDF format.

  Title Arizona-Sonora Documents Online
  Description This web sites provides web access to digital images of archival collections relating to Arizona and Sonora, Mexico that are located at three Arizona repositories: the University of Arizona Library Special Collections; the Arizona Historical Society-Tucson; and the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records. The documents included in Arizona-Sonora Documents Online site primarily date to the 19th and 20th centuries, and deal with subjects such as ranching, mining, land grants, Chinese immigration, border issues, and government. Documents are in both Spanish and English.

  Title Center of Southwest Studies, Fort Lewis College
  Description The Center of Southwest Studies is the home site of a research center and educational program on the southwest at Fort Lewis college. This site provides information about the Center's Archives, online access to digital images, the Fort Lewis College Library's online catalog, and guides to collections. The site offers various tools for researchers including links to other Southwest programs and archival repositories.

  Title Cline Library: Southwest Studies Resources
  Description This site is the Cline Library of Northern Arizona University resource page for information on the southwest. Although many of the resources are restricted to NAU-affiliated researchers, a significant number are available to others. Included are links to bibliographic databases, article citations and abstracts, dictionaries and encyclopedias, and outside web sites.

  Title Collections of the Arizona State Law and Research Library Division
  Description This site provides information about the various collections of the Arizona State Library. Collections include Arizona Newspapers; Arizona State Agency Publications; Federal Publications; Genealogy; Law; Maps; Periodicals (pertaining to Arizona and the Southwest); and Professional (pertaining to archival management, museology, librarianship, etc.). Some, but not all, of these collections are searchable online.

  Title Colorado Plateau Digital Archives Search
  Description This web site, provided by the Special Collections and Archives Department of NAU's Cline Library, provides online access to a number of items in NAU's Special Collections, most notably historic photographs. This is a great resource for digital images of northern Arizona.

  Title Defining the Southwest
  Description "Defining the Southwest" is a project originally developed as a component of a library web exhibit at the University of Arizona. The site is multidisciplinary, with contributions from University faculty in Southwest literature, folklore, anthropology, archaeology, architecture and linguistics. It attempts to "gather multiple visions of what the Southwest might entail." The site's pages include links to historical maps, bibliographies, and digital images. It also offers links and access to student web projects. This page is a good general resource.

  Title Documentary Relations of the Southwest
  Description Documentary Relations of the Southwest (DRSW) is part of the Office of Ethnohistorical Research at the Arizona State Museum. DRSW contains over 1,500 microfilm reels of documents dating from the 16th Century to 1821, and includes documents relating to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and northern Mexico. DRSW provides an index of its holdings (the DRSW Master Index) and a biographical index (Biofile); both are searchable online. Also provided are instructions on using the DRSW and links to other databases related to ethnohistory.

  Title Ethridge Collection at Mesa State College
  Description The Ethridge Collection is comprised of prehistoric southwestern ceramics, and resides at Mesa State College. The Collection's web site provides an online exhibit of the collection, featuring a large number of photographs and a narrative description.

  Title Images of the Southwest
  Description Developed by the University of Arizona, this collection of digitalized exhibits offers access to collections which are limited among the public. Included are photographs, manuscripts, audio recordings, and videotapes. Documents can also be printed directly from the site. The collection is primarily of the more recent historical nature (20th century) and focuses on southern Arizona, including collections related to the mission churches of the Sonoran Desert, Sabino Canyon, and the Bisbee Deportation of 1917. While the information is sometimes basic or even sparse, some collections are impressively extensive. Lists of related references are often listed.

  Title Newberry Library
  Description A non-circulating research library located in Chicago, the Newberry Library specializes in the humanities as related to Europe from the Middle Ages to the middle of last century and to the Americas from European contact forward. The Library is part of the Online Computer Library Center's (OCLC) electronic union catalogue and can be searched online. It holds many rare books, manuscripts, and maps. The Library has a variety of specialized collections and offers services and programs for researchers and students. The Library's catalog is easily searchable, with a link for questions and requests and links to relevant sites. Though not specific to the Southwest, many of their holdings are relevant to this region.

  Title Online Archive of New Mexico
  Description The Online Archive of New Mexico provides online access to the catalogs of the four major archival repositories in New Mexico. Some of the documents have been digitized, allowing full online access to a number of materials. The site also provides educational materials on using the archives for K-12 educators, including classroom exercises.

  Title Parallel Histories: Spain, the United States, and the American Frontier
  Description A cooperative effort between the National Library of Spain, the Biblioteca Colombina y Capitular of Seville and the Library of Congress, this site is a bilingual English-Spanish digital library site that explores the interactions between Spain and the United States of America from the fifteenth to the early nineteenth centuries. Parallel Histories presents books, maps, prints and photographs, manuscripts, and other documents from the collections of the partner libraries in digital form, and focuses on five main themes related to the history of Spain and the parallel histories between the United States and Spain: Exploration and Early Settlement, Colonization and Settlement, Meeting of Cultures and Religious/Evangelical Activities, American Revolution, and Mutual Perceptions.

  Title Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park
  Description The Pueblo Grande Museum is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting materials from the associated Pueblo Grande Hohokam site. Its web site provides information about the museum (for instance, visiting hours and guided site tours); it also has some information for researchers wishing to work with the collections and with the library and archives.

  Title San Juan College Library: Southwest Resources
  Description "San Juan College Library-Southwest Resources" is a library resource site containing information pertaining to the geographic region covering New Mexico, Arizona, southern Utah, southern Colorado, southern Nevada, southeastern California, Texas west of the Pecos River, and northwestern Mexico. It provides a listing of holdings in San Juan College's "Southwest Room." The site also provides access to Ethnic News Watch, an electronic database of articles from journals such as the Navajo Times, Indian Country Today, and other tribal newspapers. The most useful category for researchers not on site is the "Web Resources" section, which includes links to other libraries and several useful online resources for anthropological, archaeological, and historical studies of the Southwest.

  Description This page is a source for documents on the Southwest (primarily Arizona). Some of the books and articles are currently in the public domain; others are from special collections.   Title Southwestern Wonderland
  Description The Southwestern Wonderland exhibit, provided by the University of Arizona Library Special Collections, presents materials on the Southwestern United States from the pamphlet and printed ephemera collection. Materials are grouped into 12 categories, including accessibility, advertising, agriculture, architecture, entertainment, environment, exotic, health, indigenous culture, railroads, religion, and roads. Each category section begins with a summary introduction to the collection.

  Title The Photography Collection, Western History/Genealogy Department, Denver Public Library
  Description This photograph collection, provided by the Western History / Genealogy Department of the Denver Public Library in partnership with the Colorado Historical Society and Denver Art Museum, includes a search engine for 100,000 on-line historic photographs of western states. Many images of the Southwest are available. The site also contains images of artifacts from the Colorado Historical Society and Denver Art Museum. High-resolution prints of the images are available for sale.

  Title Utah State History-Department of Community and Economic Development
  Description This is the Utah Division of State History/Utah State Historical Society site on Utah state history. The site includes pages that link to funding opportunities related to the organization and lists of periodicals and books published by the Historical Society. Pages also link to volunteering and membership options and educational resources available to teachers. Pages include links to legal forms, public archeology resources, and information about the National Register for Historic Places. Perhaps the most interesting part of the site is the page that links to the library/collections section of the organization. This portion includes a list of topics of all newspaper clippings, periodicals, and yearbooks to which the society has access.
