This site, hosted by the American Indian Institute at Arizona State University, provides a list of most of the American Indian tribes in the Southwest, including links to official tribal websites for many Southwestern tribal communities. Some links, however, lead not to official tribal websites, but to other (official) organizations, such as the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque; other tribes have no links at all. This page is updated infrequently, so be sure to check the "last modified" date. |

Description |
Though not specific to the Southwest, AnthroSource is a good general resource for anthropological publications. Sponsored by the American Anthropological Association, this online resource provides a complete electronic archive of all AAA journals through 2003; access to archival content housed at JSTOR for key AAA publications (for AAA members and subscribing institutions); and current issues for 11 of the AAA's peer-reviewed publications. Journals available through AnthroSource include American Anthropologist, Journal of Latin American Anthropology, the Archeological Papers of the American Anthropological Association, and American Ethnologist. |

Description |
"Defining the Southwest" is a project originally developed as a component of a library web exhibit at the University of Arizona. The site is multidisciplinary, with contributions from University faculty in Southwest literature, folklore, anthropology, archaeology, architecture and linguistics. It attempts to "gather multiple visions of what the Southwest might entail." The site's pages include links to historical maps, bibliographies, and digital images. It also offers links and access to student web projects. This page is a good general resource. |

Documentary Relations of the Southwest |

Description |
Documentary Relations of the Southwest (DRSW) is part of the Office of Ethnohistorical Research at the Arizona State Museum. DRSW contains over 1,500 microfilm reels of documents dating from the 16th Century to 1821, and includes documents relating to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and northern Mexico. DRSW provides an index of its holdings (the DRSW Master Index) and a biographical index (Biofile); both are searchable online. Also provided are instructions on using the DRSW and links to other databases related to ethnohistory. |

National NAGPRA Database and Program |

Description |
The "National NAGPRA" web site is designed to assist tribal agencies, universities, and museums with the procedures and regulations set forth in the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990. NAGPRA provides a "process for museum and Federal agencies to return certain Native American cultural items to lineal descendants, and culturally affiliated Indian tribes and Native Hawaiian organizations." The site, operated by the National Park Service, offers resources and forms for this process, as well as a searchable database wherein objects are listed for repatriation. There are also pages that explain NAGPRA to the general public, contain up to date news, and provide information to the press. Though not specific to the southwest, this site is an important resource for anyone needing information on NAGPRA. |

This web site describes a conference hosted by the Navajo Nation Human Research Review Board. "Sipapu" is a site on the Anasazi designed by archaeologist John Kantner. The site has clearly been designed for the general public, but there is also more in-depth information here. The website contains three sections: Explore Prehistoric Anasazi Architecture, Learn about Anasazi Prehistory, and For the Serious Researcher; the site also contains a Frequently Asked Questions section. The section "For the Serious Researcher" provides access to extensive online bibliographies of information and papers published that relate to Anasazi history. |

It includes great detail at the state and regional levels. The site includes funding resources related to the USGS and links to thousands of USGS publications and high resolution maps and atlases. This site is an absolute must for anyone needing regional or large-scale environmental or ecological data. As the resources available are well funded by the government, they are among the most reliable and up to date on the web. |
