  Title Amerind Foundation
  Description The Amerind Foundation is a nonprofit anthropological and archaeological museum and research center dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Native American cultures and their histories. Their website provides a description of exhibits and current events, an online photo gallery, information about some of the research activities of the center (including a list of publications), and basic visitor information.

  Title Archaeological Institute of America
  Description This is the official website of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA). The homepage contains links to information about the most recent archaeological publications sponsored by the AIA, including Archaeology magazine and the American Journal of Archaeology, which can be accessed from the web site by both members and non­members. Links to current news relating to archaeology are available. The site also contains information about fellowships, awards, and some other funding opportunities. Though the AIA site is not specific to the North American southwest, it provides good background information on the worldwide archaeological community. A particularly useful resource is the online Archaeological Fieldwork Opportunities Bulletin, which lists several fieldwork opportunities in the southwest.

  Title Jacobs Research Funds
  Description This small foundation supports anthropological research (primarily sociocultural or linguistic) on the indigenous peoples of Canada, Mexico, and mainland United States; although their focus is on the Pacific Northwest, they will consider southwestern research. Grants are given for work on problems in: language, social organization, political organization, religion, mythology, music, other arts, psychology and folk science.

  Title National Geographic Committee for Research and Exploration
  Description The National Geographic Committee for Research and Exploration supports research that "increases and diffuses geographic knowledge." Though not specific to the Southwest, this is a good interdisciplinary funding source for Southwest researchers. The website describes funded projects and provides guidelines and online application forms for those wishing to apply for funding.

  Title National Science Foundation
  Description The National Science Foundation is an independent agency of the US government that supports scientific research. Though not specific to the Southwest, the NSF website is an invaluable resource for any researcher seeking funding. For those conducting scientific research, information on grant availability and deadlines is available. The NSF also gives graduate student fellowships for graduate students in their first years of study.

  Title School of American Research
  Description The School of American Research is a nonprofit center for advanced studies which supports the study and practice of anthropology and Southwest Indian arts. This web site contains detailed information on the workings of the SAR, including information about the Resident Scholars Program and other funding opportunities; the online catalog of the Catherine McElvain Library; a link to the SAR Press; and information about the Advanced Seminars, Indian Arts Research Center, and Contemporary Issues program. Information about the Arroyo Hondo and Grand Canyon collections is also available.

  Title Society for Applied Anthropology
  Description Though not specific to the Southwest, the Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) web site is a great resource for general information on the practice of applied anthropology. Of particular interest are the employment opportunities section, the "About" section, and the forums.

  Title Southwestern Archaeology Inc. (SWA)
  Description The SWAnet site includes information on the Pecos conference, a searchable archive, paid and volunteer employment opportunities in Southwestern archaeology, a directory of archaeologists that work in the Greater Southwest, and links to other news sources. As of this writing, some of the site's content has been removed; however, the jobs board, the newsletter, the "projects" section, and "contacts" were all current.

  Title The American Anthropological Association
  Description The American Anthropological Association was established in 1902 with a membership open to all who are interested in anthropology. The Association publishes the American Anthropologist journal. The site provides e-versions of some articles, an online publications store, resources for students, and links to other sites and job opportunities. Though not specific to the Southwest, this site provides invaluable information about the American anthropology community as a whole.

  Description The Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research is a private operating foundation that supports basic research in all branches of anthropology. Though not specific to the Southwest, Wenner-Gren is a good resource for anthropologists who work in this region. The web site contains information on grant programs and downloadable application forms.
