  Title ALRIS
  Description The Arizona Land Resource Information System, or ALRIS, was started in 1982 and has since been managed by the Administration and Resource Analysis Division of the Arizona Sate Land Department. The ALRIS program provides support services for Arizona's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) community by offering "training and consultation in the use of the system, related technical services, and limited production services to system users." ALRIS is a clearinghouse for Arizona spatial GIS data, and therefore a wide variety of GIS data is available through this site.

  Title Arizona Electronic Atlas
  Description The Arizona Electronic Atlas is an interactive atlas that allows one to create, manipulate, and download accurate and current maps and data. Map themes include Natural Resources, People and Society, Business and Economics, and People and Environment. Data can be downloaded as shapefiles for use in ArcView.

  Title NASA: Global Change Master Directory Datasets
  Description This web site provides access to thousands of Earth science datasets. Most of the data is intended for use in GIS-based analyses. Though not specific to the Southwest, many southwestern datasets are included.

  Title National Atlas of the United States
  Description Though not specific to the Southwest, the National Atlas is a good resource for constructing maps of the southwest. The site provides ArcView layers depicting political, natural, and geographical features (see especially http://nationalatlas.gov/atlasftp.html). This site is particularly useful to GIS users.

  Title National Park Service Geographic Information Systems
  Description This web site provides general information on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as well as information on how GIS are being used in the National Park System (NPS). Of particular interest is the GIS data from a variety of National Parks that is available for download. Though the site as a whole is not specific to the Southwest, data from a number of NPS sites in the Southwest are available. This is an excellent resource for anyone conducting mapping projects in the region.

  Title Pima County DOT Geographic Information Services Division
  Description The Geographic Information System (GIS) is one of the best tools currently available for managing geographic information, such as addresses, district boundaries, the spatial distribution of health statistics, roads, washes and buildings. A GIS is a computer system capable of capturing, storing, analyzing and displaying geographically referenced information. This website is an excellent source for geographical data and was created in order to provide widespread access to geographic information for the general public. The site also features several useful tutorials on GIS.

  Description The National Map is a project designed by the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) in order to provide public access to high-quality, geospatial data and information. Its purpose is to offer the public the ability to access, integrate, and apply geospatial data at global, national and local scales. It is an excellent source for geographic data and maps.
